In close cooperation with the sportcoach of the city of Wolfhagen, Heiko Weiershäuser, and the manager of the public swimming pool in Wolfhagen, Sven Gulau, the Wilhelm-Filchner-Schule conducted a swimming course for the so-called DAZ students (German as a second language). And that was very successful because after only one child managed to get the swimming badge in the previous year, this time it was just 5 girls and boys.

Experts warn against the fact that Germany will become a country of non-swimmers, says sportcoach Heiko Weiershäuser, because everywhere the offers of the swimming pools are reduced because of the high cost. Of course, this also affects the swimming skills of the children.

And that's why it was important for us to provide a swimming course, especially for children with a migrant background, says sports teacher Susann Kuhn. 90 € for a professional swimming class is an amount that many families simply can not afford and that is often not funded through education and participation.
We would like to sincerely thank the city of Wolfhagen and swimming champion Sven Gulau, who supervised the final exams and had asked the swimming rules, for the great cooperation, says the new school sports director of the Wilhelm-Filchner-Schule, Dr. med. Karl Riedel.

And last but not least, we thank sportcoach Heiko Weiershäuser, who accompanied us despite his illness and has always helped the children with empathy to explore their limits. True to his motto "You can do it", he led the 5 successful children to their first swim badge.
It was just nice for all of us to see the children's beaming eyes shining with pride at the handover. Wilhelm Filchner School, teacher, sports coach and swimming champion agree: This is what we want to repeat next year with even more swimming badges.
